Painting has always been with me in one form or another. My mother took me with her through the Louvre in 1955 when I was four as my family made the first attempt to move to Europe. I have no definite memory of that but perhaps something stuck. She also bought me my first set of "oils". I always painted as a child and into high school art classes. When choosing a major at the University I decided to be more practical about earning a living and opted for Interior Architecture as I had always had an interest in building spaces and construction.

My work is an exploration or interpretation of my thoughts and requires many preliminary compositions and drawings and anatomy studies.  It is a slow progression through any number of layers that may be scratched off, sanded down or over painted.  Over time pieces of previous passages can be revised, folded in or lost completely.

When I had the opportunity to return to drawing and painting I began a path that followed my interest in the figure and examining the psychology within.  I was prompted and stimulated by the concepts of Remedios Varo and the brush work and pictorial qualities of Frans Hals and Edvard Munch.
